In the Saale Valley, footpaths lead over hill and dale, from castle to castle and through the vineyards. Along the way, you can combine exercise in the fresh air with a little history.
Wasserkuppe
At 950 metres, the Wasserkuppe is the highest mountain in Hesse and a destination all year round. In summer there is a toboggan run, hiking trails and gliding; in winter, ski slopes, cross-country trails and sledging hills. The German Gliding Museum (Deutsches Segelflugmuseum) is also well worth a visit.
