A listed historic castle in the market town of Elfershausen, just a few minutes from our guesthouse. Worth a short detour.

The ruin of a medieval hilltop castle, perched about 60 metres above the Saale river. One of three castles in the valley that together form the "Castles of the Saale" trail — great views and a real sense of history.

A small museum in nearby Euerdorf dedicated to the geological history of the Triassic period — fossils, minerals and interactive exhibits. Good for families.

Also known as the Red Castle, built between 1726 and 1731 as a summer residence on the foundations of a historic wine cellar. Hammelburg has been a centre of winemaking since the 8th century, and the castle reflects that long tradition.

Try your luck at a classic German casino. The Casino Bad Kissingen is set in the historic Luitpoldpark — an entertaining evening out.

Known as the "Holy Mountain of Franconia" — a Franciscan monastery with its own brewery. The monastery restaurant serves hearty food alongside their famous Kreuzberg beer. Around half a million visitors come here every year, and for good reason.

An interactive visitor centre about the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhoen, located in Oberbach. Great for learning about the local landscape and wildlife. Open daily 10 AM to 5 PM.
